Globally, about 8.9% of the world’s population — 690 million people — go to bed on an empty stomach each night (World Vision). In the US alone, it is estimated that 17 million children are struggling with hunger (Save the Children). Organizations such as Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) exist to provide meals to hungry children to help them grow, thrive, and develop to their full potential, recognizing food assistance is a vital component in the process of transitioning individuals, families, and communities out of chronic hunger and poverty and into self-sufficiency (as described on FMSC’s website). We’re proud to share a recent community outreach project completed by members of our Oswego/Lombard team at the nearby Aurora, IL FMSC facility.
On May 18, fifteen Custom Culinary associates, family members, and friends volunteered their time and services to assist in packing 34 cases of food to help feed 20 children in need of nourishment for an entire year. In total, that is 7,344 meals packed in just a couple hours’ time! This is not the first time the Oswego/Lombard location has served at this facility, and it certainly won’t be the last that they volunteer time to work towards FMSC’s mission.
We would like to thank this team for their leadership and commitment to serving our surrounding communities. Community involvement is one of the pillars of our company—a commitment to improving the world around us by giving back to the communities in which we operate. Thanks again, team.
